Friday is Artificial Life Form Day No. 2

Well I wanted to get this up last Friday, December 31 but I downloaded a virus and was not able to get online for a couple of days. I won’t go into the particulars about the virus as I want to get on with my posting. With that being said, here is the second installment of ALF Friday.

This week in keeping with the cartoon and Hanna Barbera theme I give you Dynomutt!

Dynomutt was the loyal sidekick and faithful companion of ‘The Blue Falcon’, you should say that with a deep, booming voice to get the full effect. Dynomutt’s full title was ‘Dynomutt-Dog Wonder’ which Blue Falcon would often simply refer to him as ‘Dog Wonder’. The show was kind of based on The Batman of the time with Blue Falcon playing the role of a caped crusading, millionaire who fought crime using all kinds of specialized gadgets. See? Sound like anyone you know?

The difference was while Batman had Robin as a sidekick, who was not as effective a fighter as Batman, still held his own, Dynomutt would constantly blunder what he was doing and more often than not ended up getting both him and Blue Falcon in trouble. However things would work out in the end and he would help save the day with Blue Falcon. If you didn’t know that Dynomutt was a faithful friend to Blue Falcon you would have thought he was sent by Blue Falcon’s enemies to hinder him.

Dynomutt did have some useful abilities though. He could elongate his limbs and neck on what appeared to be steel extenders. He was also able to produce a seemingly endless amount of useful (or useless) mechanical items from within his body. Dynomutt shared some of the same K-9 attributes that most Hanna Barbera Dogs did making him appear as though he might be some kind of long lost distant relative to Scooby-Do.

Dynomutt’s own series was short lived but Hanna Barbera would bring him back over the years as a guest star on one of their many numerous cartoons.

Next week I’ll be checking in with one of the first Japanese Anime to be shown here in the U.S., Gigantor, The Space Age Robot!

Can you contain your excitement?
